Lizzano F1 – Compact bush tomato with high disease resistance
What sets Lizzano F1 apart?
Lizzano F1 is a modern bush tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) that combines high resistance to blight with a sweet flavour and a compact habit. An excellent choice if you want to grow tomatoes at home in a pot or balcony box.
Background and name
An F1 hybrid developed in the Netherlands to meet the need for hardy, high-yielding varieties for urban growing.
Appearance and growth habit
A bush (determinate) tomato that reaches about 40–50 cm in height. It does not need its side shoots removed. Bears masses of small red tomatoes (20–30 g) in dense trusses.
Flavour and uses of Lizzano F1
A sweet, round tomato flavour. Excellent in salads, as a snack for the children or picked straight from the pot.
Ripening time, resistance and storage
Early ripening – about 60 days. Highly resistant to blight and fruit splitting. The tomatoes stay fresh for up to a week.
Pollination tips
Shake the flower trusses in a greenhouse for a bigger crop.
How to grow Lizzano F1
Sow in March–April. Grow in a pot or raised bed. No side-shoot removal needed. Ripens after about 60 days.
Price is for 10 tomato seeds
Sow in seed compost and keep the compost lightly moist until the seeds germinate. Pot on into larger pots of nutrient-rich compost once the seedlings have their first true leaves. Harden off before planting out. Does best in a greenhouse or a warm spot outdoors. Water evenly for an even, plentiful crop.
