Eureka – chilli seeds for a colourful and compact chilli
What makes Eureka special
Eureka is a charming and compact chilli variety that combines splendid colour with moderate heat. It belongs to Capsicum annuum and is an ideal variety for anyone who wants to grow chilli in a hanging basket, pot or small space. With its intense colour shifts from purple to orange and red it is an eye-catcher wherever you plant it. A beautiful and tasty chilli for both beginners and experienced growers.
Background and name
The name Eureka hints at a kind of joy of discovery – and that is exactly how it feels when the plant explodes in colour during the season. The variety is bred to be both decorative and productive, especially in smaller growing environments. With its compact habit and high fruit set it is an obvious choice for anyone who wants to grow chilli on a balcony, terrace or in a greenhouse.
Appearance and growth habit
The plant grows about 30–45 cm tall and grows dense and bushy, which makes it perfect for a hanging basket or windowsill. The small, pointed pods ripen in a play of colour that starts in deep purple and goes via orange to glowing red. The pods are not only beautiful – they also sit in large numbers all over the plant, giving an impressive and colourful overall impression.
Estimated Scoville heat
Eureka has an estimated Scoville strength of about 20,000–30,000 SHU, which makes it a medium-hot chilli – strong enough to be noticed but not so hot that it scares off those unused to chilli.
Flavour and uses of Eureka
The flavour is fresh and fruity with a clear heat that lingers for a while without taking over. The pods are small but flavourful, which makes them excellent to use fresh in salads, as decoration or in lightly hot dishes. They also keep their lovely colour well when cooked, which makes them a visual asset in the kitchen.
Ways to use Eureka
Try shredding the pods and sprinkling them over tacos, pizza or salads to add both colour and sting. They are also excellent for pickling or making small batches of colourful chilli sauce. With its medium heat Eureka is also a good introduction to home-grown chilli varieties for anyone who wants to start experimenting in the kitchen.
How to grow Eureka
Eureka belongs to Capsicum annuum and is well suited to sowing from February to April. Sow the seeds indoors in seed compost and use grow lights if you can. When the plants are stable and the risk of frost has passed, they can be planted out in larger pots, hanging baskets or the open ground. The variety does best in warm, nutrient-rich and well-drained soil. Water regularly but avoid overwatering – especially in a pot. Pinch out the top of the plant early for an even bushier habit.
Eureka is a chilli variety that really lives up to its name – a colourful, productive and flavourful discovery that brightens up every garden. Perfect for both eye and palate! 🌶️🌈

Open-pollinated Sow in moist seed compost or peat pellets and keep warm, at about 25–30°C for best germination The compost should be moist but not wet. A propagator helps to keep the air humid. Once the seedlings have grown a little and developed their second pair of leaves, you can lower the temperature to about 20°C and take them out of the propagator. They do well on a sunny windowsill, in a greenhouse and outdoors in summer. For best results, soak the seeds in Growhelper for 12–24 hours before sowing
