Loco F1 – a bushy little chilli with colour and bite
What makes Loco F1 special
Loco F1 is a compact, colourful chilli with medium heat and a high decorative value. It was bred as an F1 hybrid to combine a plentiful harvest with lovely colour and good flavour. Easy to grow and ideal for both beginners and collectors.
Background and name
The name ”Loco”, Spanish for crazy, refers both to the motley play of colour and to the unexpected sting hidden in the small pods. As an F1 hybrid, the variety has extra vigour and even growth, which gives a reliable harvest.
However, as the variety is an F1 hybrid, deviations in colour and shape can occasionally occur.
Appearance and growth habit
Plants reach about 30–50 cm with a dense habit. The pods grow upright and ripen from green to purple, orange and finally red. One plant can carry pods at several stages of ripeness at once, which gives a vividly colourful impression.
How hot is Loco F1?
About 30,000 – 40,000 SHU
Flavour and uses
The flavour is fresh and slightly tart with clear heat, but not overwhelming. Perfect for pickles, hot salsas or colourful garnishes where both flavour and looks matter.

Growing Loco F1
Loco F1 belongs to Capsicum annuum. Sow your chilli seeds between February and April. The plant grows quickly and suits growing in a pot, both indoors and outdoors. It is robust and easy to succeed with, even for beginners.

Sow in moist seed compost and keep warm, about 25–30 °C for the best germination. The compost should be moist but not wet. A propagator is handy for keeping the humidity up. Once the seedlings have grown a little and developed their second pair of leaves, you can lower the temperature to about 20 °C and move them out of the propagator. They do well on a sunny windowsill, in a greenhouse and outdoors in summer. For the best results, soak the seeds in Growhelper for 12–24 hours before sowing.
