Oxheart Pink – Classic heart-shaped beefsteak tomato with a silky flavour
What is Oxheart Pink?
Oxheart Pink is a majestic beefsteak tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) with heart-shaped fruit, pink skin and a velvety flavour. A real gourmet tomato to grow from seed if you like large, juicy tomatoes.
Background and name
‘Oxheart’ refers to the characteristic shape of the fruit. The pink variant is especially appreciated in Central Europe and the USA for its unique balance of sweetness and freshness.
Appearance and growth habit
A tall-growing (indeterminate) variety that requires side-shoot removal. The fruits are large and heart-shaped, often weighing 200–400 grams.
Flavour and uses of Oxheart Pink
A soft, sweet and delicate flavour with low acidity. Perfect in sandwiches and salads, or as the star of a caprese.
Ripening time, resistance and storage
Ripens after 80 days. Best in a greenhouse, but also works in a sheltered spot outdoors. Harvest gently – the fruits are sensitive to pressure.
Pollination tips
A gentle shake at flowering improves fruit set.
How to grow Oxheart Pink
Sow in March. Plant in a greenhouse or a warm outdoor spot. Remove side shoots and give firm support. Ripens after 80 days.
Price is for 10 tomato seeds
Sow in seed compost and keep the compost lightly moist until the seeds germinate. Pot on into larger pots of nutrient-rich compost once the seedlings have their first true leaves. Harden off before planting out. Remove side shoots regularly and water evenly to avoid fruit splitting.
