Thyme: Thyme grows to about 3 dm (30 cm) tall. The flowers are purple, and the leaves are very small, oval and pointed. On older plants the stems can be somewhat woody and the bush begins to thin out. Strong, spicy scent released when you touch the plant. Grow in a warm, sunny position in light, well-drained soil. Propagated by cuttings or division. It can also be raised from seed in spring. Hardy, and survives a Swedish winter. Thyme grows well in a pot on a balcony or windowsill, but indoors the shoots often become long and sparse. Harvest whole sprigs before flowering or late in autumn. Use fresh or dried. Dry the sprigs in bunches until the leaves come loose when you squeeze the sprigs lightly.
