Carolina Reaper Chocolate – deep flavour and a brutal sting
What makes Carolina Reaper Chocolate special
Carolina Reaper Chocolate is one of the hottest brown-coloured chilli varieties in the world. It combines the iconic Carolina Reaper heat with a deep, dark flavour profile – a must for all chilli lovers who want to explore new levels of heat.
Background and name
The variety is a natural brown mutation of the red Carolina Reaper. It keeps all the characteristic traits – including the ‘stinger-like’ tip – but with a dark, almost smoky look and flavour.
Appearance and growth habit
The plants grow up to 130 cm tall with a vigorous habit. The pods are dark brown, bumpy and very menacing in expression – often with the classic Reaper tail.
Estimated Scoville heat
Approx. 1,400,000 – 2,200,000 SHU
Flavour and uses
The flavour is full, deep and slightly smoky with notes of cocoa and fruit – before the heat takes over completely. A favourite in fermented sauces and hearty stews.
