Mexibell F1 – sweet pepper meets chilli heat
What makes Mexibell F1 special
Mexibell F1 is a unique cross between a sweet pepper and a chilli, a so-called ”chilli bell”. It looks like an ordinary blocky sweet pepper but surprises with mild to medium heat. Perfect for anyone who loves full-bodied pods with a little sting.
Background and name
Developed in the USA to combine the shape and uses of a sweet pepper with the mild heat of a chilli. The name Mexibell hints at its Mexican inspiration and at the ”bell” shape of the classic sweet pepper.
Appearance and growth habit
Plants reach about 60–80 cm with a sturdy habit. The pods are thick-walled, 10–12 cm wide and look like ordinary sweet peppers. They ripen from green to deep red and have an attractive glossy skin.
How hot is Mexibell F1?
About 500 – 1,500 SHU
Flavour and uses
The flavour is sweet and mild with a subtle bite that only shows after a few seconds. Excellent for grilling, stuffing or using in dishes where you want a little more character than a sweet pepper, but without it becoming too hot.

Growing Mexibell F1
Mexibell F1 belongs to Capsicum annuum. Sow your chilli seeds between February and April. It grows quickly and is easy to succeed with. It suits a pot, a greenhouse or sunny open ground, preferably with support for the heavy pods.
Price is for 6 chilli seeds
Sow in moist seed compost and keep warm, about 25–30 °C for the best germination. The compost should be moist but not wet. A propagator is handy for keeping the humidity up. Once the seedlings have grown a little and developed their second pair of leaves, you can lower the temperature to about 20 °C and move them out of the propagator. They do well on a sunny windowsill, in a greenhouse and outdoors in summer. For the best results, soak the seeds in Growhelper for 12–24 hours before sowing.
